Winter Wonderland in Moominvalley Park – Adventure Walk ~Let’s Get Lost In The Winter Forest of Moomintroll~
From November 21, 2020 to March 7, 2021 the winter special night attraction, Adventure Walk, will be open for visitors to enjoy at the Moominvalley Park in Hannō City, Saitama Prefecture. We had the opportunity to go to the winter wonderland of Moomintroll, and would like to share our experience with you!
Adventure Walk combines a large-scale light production set on the outer circumference of Lake Miyazawa with Sony’s new sensation acoustic experience Sound AR™, and blends the physical real world with sounds of the virtual world to create a radical nighttime attraction.

In order to thoroughly enjoy the attraction, we downloaded Sony’s Locatone™ application onto our smartphone, and downloaded the tour data in advance. On the day of the tour, we recommend having a fully charged phone, taking your earphones/headphones, and wearing shoes that are comfortable to walk in!

After passing through the Entrance Gate, the Heartwarming Lantern Road welcomed us. As we slowly proceeded on the road while taking in the view of the entire lake, our excitement grew as we ventured deeper into the world of Moomintroll.
The story further unfolded as we exited Lantern Road. The narration matched the pace of our strolling, and we felt immersed and enveloped in warmth.
In order to discover the rest of the story, you’ll have to visit Moominvalley Park yourself! However, we would like to share a few scenes from the attraction with you.
At spots along the way, you will encounter Moomintroll’s friends and other creatures that appear as part of the story. You may even meet that one character that everyone knows all too well.
At the Encounter With The Large White Horse made out of snow, you can hear the story of The Lady of The Cold, the character who holds the key to the whole story. Be sure to listen carefully.
At the final stage of the story, you will arrive at the Moominhouse. Feel the atmosphere change completely at night!
The Dandelion from the Breath/Bless Project by Ryotaro Muramatsu/NAKED is an interactive art installation that expresses everyone’s wishes for peace. If you scan a QR code on your smartphone and hold it to the dandelion, the dandelion fluff will fly into the air as if it were being blown on. This is a special version of the art installation in which Moomintroll and his friends appear too.
There are 16 such spots on the Adventure Walk, and you can stroll through the forest along with Moomintroll and his friends.
This Adventure Walk truly embodies a new entertainment sensation. The combination of the light production accompanying the story, the voices which bring the words and actions of Moomintroll and his friends to life, and the sound entertainment linked to user’s movement, creating experiences such as the sound of walking on snow, makes for a completely new experience. It is a 60 to 90-minute attraction, but it felt like a fleeting instant.
What’s more, since each person uses their own smartphone and earphones and proceeds at their own pace, we can definitely say that this Adventure Park is the new way to enjoy an attraction under the effects of COVID-19.
There is a lot to do at Moominvalley Park, including attending daytime productions and events, and sampling the delicious seasonal food menu. We hope you will go to Moominvalley Park and enjoy a magical day in the world of Moomintroll!
